About Us

SAFIEC (Safi Energy Company, Coal-Fired Power Plant) is found near the town of Safi in Southwest Morocco. The Safi Coal-Fired power station is owned by a consortium of GDF SUEZ S.A. (France), Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (Japan), and Nareva Holding (Morocco). The 2×693 MW Safi Coal-Fired power station uses state-of-the-art ultra-supercritical technology ( constructed by Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. (South Korea)). The Operation & Maintenance is performed by Safi Energy Company. Safiec is that the first coal-fired power station in Africa to use ultra-supercritical technology, which is characterized by optimization of environmental performance and 10% higher efficiency compared to standard plants. that enables significant CO2 reductions and lower fuel costs. This power station is a component of Morocco’s national strategy that decides to meet its growing electricity demand at rock bottom possible cost whilst respecting the environment. From the beginning of construction and throughout its operation, the Safi power station also contributes strongly to the social and economic development of Morocco and especially the Safi region, through job creation and therefore the use of local Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) services. SAFIEC has also stimulated the further development of the energy and port infrastructure, including the new Safi port, where a coal-shipping terminal provides for the plant.
